I have many Saudi friends, and I’ve learned that their government pays 100% for all college expenses, including tuition + housing, and stipend for food, clothes, etc.
Is this just all oil money or what? Could America ever do this? Both my parents have been laid off from work while I’ve been attending a university, but FAFSA only covers about 30% of everything. Seems backwards.

Here in the UK we’re broke. I guess the USA led by that Obama guy is the same. Oil is the real currency world wide and we better get used to it real quick. Here there is very little public money for university placements. Student loans are the most used method of payment. Naturally, this has to be repaid upon graduation or failure which leaves people greatly in debt before starting a working career. Life’s a bitch, ain’t it?
Saudi Arabia makes billions and billions on oil, and has a population less than 1/10th that of the USA. They can afford to lavish benefits on their citizens. It’s their way of compensating for the lack of political and social freedoms routinely enjoyed by other people in the west.
Because they can afford to do so.
And since so many get their higher education in the US, they understand us and our ways very, very well and take great advantage of it.
Education is recognized in those countries as extremely valuable
whereas we have neglected it horribly.
