Should I just get a Bachelors of Arts for the sake of having an education?

in Higher Education (University +)

yrtfans :

It’s sad but I really don’t have any dreams or aspirations! (Besides my childhood dream of becoming a train driver ;) lawl)

Should I just get a bachelor of arts in an easy liberal arts course just for the sake of having a university education? I want to take “Law And Society” and I’m aware of how low the job prospects are. I truly don’t mind ending up working in a factory. :O

My parents will be paying for university.

And if my marks are high enough, I may try out for law school. But if it doesn’t, getting my bachelor degree will be the end of the road for me.

What are your thoughts on this? Should I just go for the sake of learning something new but won’t get me a job? Or is it a total waste? My parents are MAKING ME GO TO SCHOOL.

nah
if your parents are making you go AND are paying, you might as well get something worth your while
if a bachelor of arts degree is just something you plan on wasting your time with, dont bother

I think you’re incorrect to assume that a liberal arts education will necessarily be “easy,” especially if it isn’t your cup of tea.

Secondly, your parents cannot “make you go to school.” You are an adult and damned lucky that they are willing to pay for it.

Try and find your aspiration before you commit to anything. Or at least go to school with the goal of finding one there, or otherwise you’re just wasting their money.

Oh, and despite the common belief you can get a job with a liberal arts degree.

I think what’s important is you enjoying what you do. There are tons of courses to choose from, even if you want to get a Bachelor of Arts course.

Just, you know… get a course that you won’t regret. :)

Don’t worry about it – its just undergrad man. Its like HS was 20 years ago. Every Tom, Dick and Harry has one. But if you don’t have one its like a HS dropout was back then – no hope. Do it in whatever takes your fancy. But when you are finished, look at some post grad qual to get you where you want to go. At that stage don’t worry about prestige, and all that other stuff you hear people hoot and roar about in choosing colleges. Worry about the job placement rate for whatever program you choose – that is the key. Eg:

CSU’s don’t have a rep for being prestigious – but the school above does have an excellent job placement rate for their program. Getting that job is the key. After a few years it will go on experience anyway – your college studies won’t matter very much.

Thanks

Definitely go to school, get the education.

If you are not sure what would interest you, then maybe you should consider something off the beaten path, like Entrepreneurialism or Philanthropy.
