my mum + dad are well-off but are not interested in paying for my education. they are too busy getting divorced and establishing new relationships for themselves. why then do the authorities want to know how much they earn?

Yes, I do think it’s wrong because just because my parents are well-off, I’m less likely to get scholarships and grants even though academically I may deserve them more. But sometimes it works out because my dad has good credit, so with some loan companies I’m more likely to get more money for a loan. But I’d rather have the grants and scholarships. It’s really not very fair.

It is a hindrance to many students. I don’t know if it helps or not, but if your parents are separated then you don’t have to list both of their information – just one.
